This past Saturday evening, October 18th, we set up for an evening of music at StoneCropAcres Winery + Vineyard with no idea what was about to happen, no idea what a magical night it was going to be.
Roxanne Delage is no stranger to the stage, performing throughout the Cornwall (On) area and beyond. Her most recent musical project, Gypsy Melodies – A Folk Opry, is a 20-song soundtrack. Roxanne calls it a project of “songs and stories of love and loss, and a long road home, dedicated to the memory of my dearest Gypsy Mamma who passed 30 years ago.”
We had the pleasure of listening to this sound track and with a few cover songs mixed in. An evening that was surreal in many ways. Our audience loves the stories behind the music and they were treated to an eclectic night with Roxanne. She surprised a lot of people on Saturday night. NOT because they didn't think the music would be great, no not that at all. Nobody knew just how FANTASTIC the show was going to be. It took a while to clear the hall after the show because people kept stopping to give feedback on how much they loved the music, the stories and the musicians. Roxanne has an innate ability to capture the audience and keep them engaged right until the last note. We have pass-holders, some who have been with us since the start which means they have attended more than 300 performances and some said this was their favourite.
Roxanne was accompanied by two amazing musicians that she celebrated all evening. Marc Muir is a music teacher and producer from Cornwall Ontario. He played a 'few' guitars during the evening and his musicianship was on full display.
Rachel Campbell is a multi-instrumentalist, recording artist and music teacher from Alexandria Ontario. She played the fiddle Saturday night but also plays harp, guitar and piano. That fiddle was on FIRE Saturday night!
Requests for all the video captured during the evening came flowing in but we cut it down to 9 minutes so you can enjoy bits of what we heard. We absolutely loved her cover of EARLY MORNING RAIN but couldn't add it to the video because YouTube kept blocking that particular cover.
If you are watching this because you missed the concert we suggest you visit Roxanne's website to purchase the album, book and find out where she plays next!
